Thank you to those of you who came out to see us at the Automation Technology West Expo a couple of weeks ago. It was a great show with strong attendance and we really appreciate your support. For the first time, we had a 6-axis demonstration robot setup and it gathered quite a lot of attention, even being called "best robot in the whole show" by more than one person. While we don't know about that, we are quite proud of what we could do with so little.

As a little background, our 6-axis demo is a cable-driven, stepper-based machine that, so far, can plot 2D images, perform calibration routines, and dispense sugar with the best of them. It uses 1 KFLOP and 2 KSTEPs along with KMotionCNC for 6-axes of coordinated motion.

For those of you who couldn't make it to the show we put together a short video showing what it can do. Check it out at the link below and let us know what you think.

Thanks!

That's really cute.  Kind of reminds me of a daddy longlegs sitting in its web, ready to drop down on an unsuspecting bug. I would be interested if you have any more info on the construction and dimensions.  Actually I'm really sorry I missed you at the show - I wasn't aware there was anything going on.  Otherwise I would have been there.  Need a break from coding all this 5-axis stuff!

Really goes to show what you can do when you start to think laterally about non-linear kinematic arrangements, and use the controller to linearize the motion.

Regards,
SJH

Hi SJH,

Thanks.  We had fun building it and have some ideas on how it could be made better.  This design only has about 8inches x 8inches x 4 inches of useful travel.  It was harder than we thought to keep good tension in the cables over the entire range.  Stiffness and precision are better than expected due to all the actuators operating in parallel and being preloaded.  The most expensive part was a ball bearing pully.

Hi Tom,

Anyway you could share the source code to this 6-Axis system?

I think it would be a great way to learn some advance techniques and also reverse engineer your system and apply some of your methods to my current project.

Hi Bruk,

We now have a Test Release V4.34a with our Geppetto (Patent Pending) Kinematics as an example as well as a 5AxisGimbleAB example (not quite your Kinematics as the tool tilts but probably most similar).  See this post on cnczone:
http://www.cnczone.com/forums/dynomotion-kflop-kanalog/298574-cnc.html#post1850380

We were waiting for some initial feedback before promoting it further.

We can help with the Kinematics if needed but it seems like you have it handled.

Regards
TK
